The White Iris cast (part 1)

A week ago there was an interesting idea from a longtime member of the writing group I’m administrating on Facebook, the 90% Procrastinators. The discussion was that if you were given a chance to make your novel or your project make it to the big screen and you are given free rein on the choice of the actors, who would they be? And why?

Truth be told I have given it a lot of thought even before this discussion – like, a year before – and there are several candidates I’ve always wanted to play the roles in The White Iris. Why I picked them, and why I picked them over the others who could play the role better, are as follows. Take note that unless otherwise stated, a huge part of the choices below are mostly due to the actors’ appearance approximating the character I have in mind, and not because of their acting ability or style.

Find who they are after the break.

The fourth concept art of The White Iris has been released: the Judges. The Judges are one of the primary groups in the universe of The White Iris and probably its most important one, as well. Details after the break.

Update: and a big news

Hello guys,

I haven’t updated so far, because I’ve been busy with a lot of re-writing and re-editing bits and pieces of the story as they come along. You should know that The White Iris is a project that isn’t written in a continuous fashion; rather, I write disconnected chapters as they come to me. I don’t write in a linear fashion from plot 1 to the next. Only when I’ve written parts that I join them together and flesh out what comes between two events.

Much of what I’ve written in the past couple of months were utterly and almost entirely different from the main outline I had in mind; in fact, when I look at it, I fail to recognize the work as belonging to me. Most of these new material that were so unrecognizable from the intended plot were because of the original notes I wrote down when I started work on Tsubasa Reverse about 5 years ago. In those drafts that were discarded, rewritten, and discarded yet again, it was meant for a forum play-by-post (PBP) role-playing game, which when it was shut down I inevitably left out some elements and modified them.

When I regained the original notes I realized that some of those elements were what made Tsubasa Reverse and the RPG-to-be so endearing to its fans, including the novelization I once made in Fiction Press that garnered a lot of attention, fans and critics alike. Tsubasa Reverse was meant to meld concepts from high fantasy and Japanese manga and anime, but when I began work on The White Iris it became more of a traditional science-fantasy and its manga-and-anime influence was nearly nowhere to be seen.

There are elements in the original drafts, of course, that won’t make it to the light of day (like for example Nive being the bad guy, haha), or the original title, “Tsubasa”, and “Tsubasa Reverse”. It will stay as “The White Iris”. An interesting point here is that I am bringing back the intended reason why it was called “Tsubasa Reverse” in the first place, which was absent in the The White Iris before when this blog was set out.

And oh, the first novel of this trilogy will simply be titled “The White Iris”.

Well, that would be all. I hope you’d still be here when I update again, and I think it would be more to your tastes. Till then,

Zanyuki

thewhiteiris.wordpress.com is up! f**k yeah!

Hello everyone!

This is Zanyuki, admin of this site and author of The White Iris. Feel free to browse around the new site, especially the About page, for a primer on what TWI is all about. Alternatively, as the welcoming post to our blog, you can comment and ask me anything – hell, even things as mundane what the name of my first pet was. In which I’d probably think of it as a security question. :P

Questions and comments? I would be happy to discuss those with you.

See you next time! I will be posting a chapter here at least once a week, and in the following days the first chapter of The White Iris will be uploaded here. Isn’t that great?

Later!

~Zanyuki
